Jan 22,  · The album features a higher-than-usual number of Newman originals (always the best part of a Fathead record - "Captain Buckles," "Joel's Domain," "The Clincher" and "Negus"), a first-rate line-up of soul-jazz musicians (Blue Mitchell, Eric Gale and Bernard Purdie) and an expert sampling of Fathead on tenor, alto and flute.

Jan 26,  · David "Fathead" Newman lays down the soul and funk on listeners of his classic, "Captain Buckles". Newman, best known for his twelve years in Ray Charles' band, plays one mean sax and flute on these recordings. This is 5/5(1).

Captain Buckles LP (Item ) Atlantic/Cotillion, Out Of Stock LP, Vinyl record album. LP, Vinyl record album. David Newman Straight Ahead. Atlantic, Early 60s. Very Good+ One of the nice electric albums that David Newman cut with Roy Ayers, and a record with a smooth 70's funky sound that works better than some of his 60's.

dekepinhygaltenemocamarselfge.coinfo Captain Buckles falls into that category of solid Atlantic-label jazz albums from the late s and '70s that have never made it to CD reissue--at least until now. The original producer of Buckles, Joel Dorn (also the mastermind behind Label M, which is making headway in reissuing a potpourri of important, long-neglected albums), is determined to rectify this 5/5(1).
